Navigating through life

Philippians 4:12 NIV

12 I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.


As I drove home Thursday morning from an intentional, weekly planned, Bible study,  I was reminded that though we make our plans, things can change rather quickly.  I say this with a chuckle because I know how often as women, we can get sidetracked, especially if we have not seen each other for a whole week 😊.  As coffee with a girlfriend is therapy for the soul, conversations quickly change the course of direction, like a misdirected rudder on a boat. Because of the wind and the waves, the boat of life's changing circumstances carry us off course to the left or the right. Swinging away from the destination we find ourselves continually correcting the steering to navigate back on course.


Saying that, I know times like these can be invaluable.  Wisdom needs to be used in conversations with others as we expose our souls and become vulnerable, best when with others who know us well enough to say, "that is not the same person I know now". We can’t be right with God and not be real.  Sometimes God may make us real in order to be right with Him.


God knows us intimately because He created us in our mother’s womb, every hair on our head known by Him as every single sparrow that falls to the ground. So don’t be afraid because He loves you more than many sparrows (Matt 10:29-31) and His perfect love casts out all fear.  As Neil Anderson said, “We are not a product of our past, but a product of what Christ did for us on the cross.”  Not one of us is perfect, without sin.  We have all fallen short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23).  We were all born into a life of sin, Satan the father of lies and the god of this world. 


As we invite God into our innermost thoughts, He will show us where we are going wrong (Psalms 139:23 – 24), not condemning us as the enemy does, but gently nudging us in the right direction back on course. As a surgeon, cutting away that which is cancer that can so quickly spread and bring death, or a farmer pruning his vine so it can bear more fruit, so our Creator works in each one of us as we allow. If we are to grow and become mature Christians, we need to have a true knowledge of God and know who we are as children of God. And that is our prayer for each one reading this, that it would be not just a surrender to Him as our Saviour, but a surrender to Him as Lord over every area of our lives.


As we journey through life, let us keep making the adjustments we need to in order to stay on course.
