... the body goes. What we focus on and think about affects our words, our actions, and even our bodies! Everything starts with a thought.... Take a moment to remember a recent action you took, and I am sure you will recall that the action was preceded by aught. Proverbs 23:7 says that, as a man thinks in his heart, so is he. This is why it is so important to guard our thoughts - our minds. Most people don't realize how vital this is. They just accept any thought and allow it to run amok in their minds. But a false or negative thought can eventually lead to terrible results!
When we accept and dwell on thoughts of unforgiveness, bitterness, criticism, judgment, self-pity, poverty, sickness, guilt, shame, fear (the list can go on ....), it WILL become evident in our lives. It can eventually affect relationships, health, finances, and even our relationship with God, negatively. As imperfect human beings, we can so easily entertain a wrong understanding or perception without realizing it!
However, Proverbs 3:5 tells us "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths." God instructs us to not live by our own perceptions and opinions, but to check these against God's Word and to bring "into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ". His Word is rich in divine promises and truths that we can make our own and can stand on. Therefore we need to align our thoughts with His thoughts. As we study His Word, make these promises and truths our own and replace our old thoughts with His thoughts, we can experience improved results in our lives.
It is so sad that many people (even believers) live in defeat created by their own thinking. This is because they don't KNOW the truths and promises in God's Word, and therefore cannot replace the negative or false thoughts (which inevitably bombard us all) with God's truth. They don't realize that they CAN take these thoughts captive, replace them with truths from God's Word, and experience His freedom in all areas of life.
Psalm 1 reminds us that those who meditate on God's Word will be like a tree planted by a river, its leaves will not wither, it will bear fruit in the right season and will be successful in all their ways. I want to encourage you, let your mind flow into God's Word, and the rest of your life will follow ....
